Welcome to the PADI Junior Open Water Diver course
Welcome to the PADI Junior Open Water Diver course
From the age of 10 kids can enrol in the Junior Open Water Diver course. They have to complete the same requirements than Open Water Divers, read the same book (or complete the eLearning program), master the same skills and do the same certification dives as adults do.
Kids that really want to start Scuba Diving are usually comfortable and at ease under water. Weather your kid also has the necessary endurance, ability to concentrate and stay on a task, understand the diving theory and handle the heavy gear can’t be generally answered and is best judged by the parents. Some kids are ready at 10, for others it might be better to wait until they are more mature.
Junior Open Water Divers do have some limitations
So what makes the Junior Open Water Diver course different?
- It is a semi-private course!
- Young kids have a different way of learning, require more patience and comments made by other adults on the course might not always be suitable for kids. That’s why we don’t mix kids under 15 together in a class with adults (with the exception of their parents if they wish to join the course).
- Open Water Diver theory lessons have up to 14 students in the class room. We allow a maximum of 4 kids per instructor in any portion of the Junior Open Water Diver course. This allows for more time with each student in the class room and less waiting and getting cold during practice underwater.
- Junior divers will get a wetsuit for all practical training sessions, even in the pool. *Please be aware that wetsuit rental is only included in the course if we have a size that fits your child.
- A parent needs to be present during all portions of the course.
Kids are often excited and more motivated working with a computer. They profit from the visual learning experience of the interactive eLearning program. Also they can take the time they need to understand everything. If your kid likes computers or tablets it’s well worth the upgrade. The instructor will still pass over the most important sections with them and we are here for you if questions come up.
- 2 mornings of theory class (or eLearning at home)
- 2 afternoons of pool training
- 4 dives over 1 weekend at Thetford Mines (or a certification in the south)
- Have your own fins, mask and snorkel
- All the rest is provided by Plongée Capitale*
