Welcome to your IDC
The IDC prepares you to teach PADI’s main courses, from Open Water Diver to Divemaster. At the end of the IDC, you will be perfectly prepared to take the final PADI Instructor Exam (IE) and start teaching.
Plongée Capitale is proud to have its own course director on its team, along with two staff instructors. François, Marilaine, and Daniela offer a quality course and personalized support for exceptional preparation of each student. Our candidates are always among the best during the IE exam.
In Quebec, there are two IEs per year, one in May and another in October. Our IDC dates are scheduled to align with these two exam dates. If you wish to take an IDC during the winter period, when diving is not possible in Quebec, François also offers IDCs in Mexico.
There is no minimum number of participants required for the course to take place.

Recommended preparation
- Be a PADI Divemaster
- Be at least 18 years old

- Demonstrate experience in night diving, deep diving, and underwater navigation
- Provide a medical certificate signed by a doctor (dated within the last 12 months)/span>
- Be an EFR instructor before the IE

- Dive knife/tool
- Two surface signaling devices – one audible and one visual
- A dive flag – when required by local law
- RDP Table/eRDPml or the instruction manual for your dive computer
- eLearning completed before the start of the IDC
- Completed all sections of the “Knowledge Workbook”
- Reviewed the dive tables
- Have adequate equipment in good condition

IDC Overview
The THEORY – Gain knowledge!
The PRACTICAL PART – Get wet!
Duration: Approximately 15 hours
What you will do:
- Perform the 24 exercises from the skills evaluation, achieving an overall score of 82 points or more, with no individual skill rated below 3.0 and at least one 5.0 for an underwater skill.
- Deliver four teaching presentations in confined water, achieving a minimum score of 3.4 on at least two presentations. For one presentation, you must work without a certified assistant.
- Complete a continuous swim of 400 meters/yards without assistance, using any swim style.
- Perform a 10-minute float or tread water.
- In confined or open water, demonstrate a rescuer-quality simulation of assisting a diver pretending to panic on the surface.
Duration: 2 days at the lake
What you will do:
- Demonstrate model-quality rescue skills of unconsciousness diver underwater and handle respiratory arrest situation at the surface.
- Conduct at least two integrated teaching presentations in open water (two skills per presentation), achieve a minimum score of 3.4, including at least:
- one set of skills from the PADI Open Water Diver course.
- one set of skills from a continuing education course requiring demonstration.
- one set of skills performed without a certified assistant.
- Participate in a scenario involving:
- Surfacing with an unconscious diver simulating respiratory arrest.
- Providing assistance at the surface.
- Exiting the water.
- Administering first aid on the boat or shore, including artificial respiration and oxygen delivery using an inhalation mask.
